Unable to fly, the Little Spotted Kiwi (Kiwi-pukupuku) emerges from its burrow at night, and forages for insects until morning. As well as good night vision, the Kiwi- pukupuku is able to sense its environment by sound and smell, having ears behind its eyes and nostrils at the end of its beak.
