Gentle giant of the forest, the shy but beautifully cloaked Wood Pigeon uses flying more than song to attract a mate. Hardly delicate in build they may appear clumsy amongst the cramped canopy of the bush, but here they will pair and bond for life, while raising one offspring a season. Kereru prefer to spend their time among ancient species of native New Zealand trees eating and dispersing their berry seed, as they have done since when dinosaurs walked the Earth.
